Excel Sports

In the great state of Colorado, we have no shortage of competent, high-end bike stores to choose from. We have written about Schwab Cycles in a past post with more to be featured in the coming months. However today we are writing about Excel Sports out of Boulder.

Very much a part of the Boulder Cycling austere, Excel Sports is the Cervelo dealer in Colorado. Founded in 1988, the folks at Excel are cyclists at heart with a high percentage of the employees drawing race experience in various or multiple disciplines at high levels over the years.

Having moved to Colorado in '04 with mountain biking on my brain, I quickly found Excel to be the one place I trusted to service my old Specialized S-works hard-tail. Over the years, I purchased many accessories and clothing from their online store and could always trust their catalog to show-up on my doorstep each month (bike porn for me). It wasn't until this year that I decided to take the plunge and purchase a new road bike from them and my experience was on par with the best.

My ride of choice was a heavily discounted Cervelo R3 (Dura Ace) with an Easton EC90 fork and FSA headset. I called a day or two ahead to make an apt to pick it up and get a fitting with my old Specialized Tarmac Comp as a guide. With James (an ex racer with a decade of experience in the industry) as my fit tech, I was quickly on the bike to see how/what needed to be changed. After a 10-min survey, James made the appropriate adjustments and my strokes were oh so buttery smooth. Excel was more than accommodating as I have been back with minor changes to the stem sizing, crank length, etc.

With service, purchase, and fit experience behind me, I can truly say that Excel sports rises to the top of my list. Yes, I have been to other "high-end" shops--bought their bikes only to find their fit experience sub-par to that of Excel. If you are a serious cyclist and are looking for a shop you can "call home" with your Cervelo, give Excel a go---you won't be disappointed.

Excel Sports can be found at 2045 32nd St Boulder, Colorado 80301
