Mellow Johnny's

IMG_0048.jpgI was on a business trip to Austin Texas last week and happened to be within walking distance of Lance Armstrong's bike shop, Mellow Johnny's. I snuck out of my work commitments for about an hour and headed over to check it out.

Mellow Johnny's is located on the West end of 4th St. in a quiet unassuming area Google.

I only spent about thirty minutes there and I wasn't there for a new bike so I had a pretty high level experience. Mellow Johnny's is a Trek shop, no surprise there. They also carried a couple custom frame models which for some reason escape me at the moment. There was a good selection of clothing and Treks. Pricing seemed in line with any other bike shop.

The more notable items were all of Lance's yellow jerseys up on the wall and all his Tour de France winning bikes on display. I had a short discussion with a couple of guys that work there, and they said Lance does come in on occasion. One guy who had worked there for two months noted that Lance had been in four times since he started working there.

I did ask for some details on the new Trek CC bikes since I am sort of in the market. The guy that helped me seemed to know what he was talking about, but since I wasn't in buying mode I didn't want to take up too much of his time. I did drop a couple of hundred on two Mellow Johnny jerseys (ssshhhh, don't let my wife know)!

Anyway, if I lived in Austin and was in the market for a Trek I would consider doing business at Mellow Johnny's.
