I tried out three different tires over the past season. Basically I was looking for the perfectly light tire to match my climbing wheels. The tire I rode on for most of the season was the
Michelin Pro3 Race.
What I really liked about the Pro3 was it was light, had good grip, and provided a soft ride. Most of my riding was on local roadways and highways where there was either a bike lane or a shoulder.
The problem I had with the Pro3 is they seem to attract small sharp objects creating little cuts quite often. Over the course of the summer months I went through three sets of tires. Every set had small cuts that eventually grew into a bulge and then allowed the tube to poke through.
I think these would be excellent race day tires, and will consider them next season when I (attempt) to return to racing. However, for a tire that was costing me ~$65-70 per tire I decided the Pro3 is not a great training tire and decided to look for something new without compromising too much.
